Manage activities related to booking, planning, dispatching, routing,
and tracking of trucks in Tanzania and in Uganda.
Collaborates with staff members to formulate and implement
transportation-related procedures as well as company revenue
goals and project services objectives.
Organize and manage subordinate staff members to ensure work is
completed and consistent with Project’s standards.
Ensure smooth interactions between the transport team and the
other departments / entity involved: Control Tower & COM
departments, BTL Uganda, and site teams (Port/Buffer Yard/TIS
plant & other place of loading/offloading).
Team Management
o Supervise and give guidance on daily operational issues.
Provide a positive learning environment to strengthen and educate
the team he/she responsible for.
Manage staff including appraisals and coaching.
Prepare JDs including Performance Indicators definition for each
position within the Transport team, adapt team tasks according to
Operations requirements if needed. He/she is proactive on
suggestions of team organization/reorganization if needed, in order
to maintain and improve the service level.
Maintain good relationship with the transporters
Assist to conduct suppliers HSE Performance Review
Ensure standardisation of operating procedures with suppliers as
per MLC’s requirements, including requirements on IVMS and
reporting to be received from transporters
Monitor supplier performance (Rate of bookings met etc.)
Obtain best rates with high quality service as per Project’s
Requirement
Operational Excellence
o Monitor his/her activity by the production of weekly and monthly
reports (KPIs, HSE figures etc.)
Maintain good service level by implementing a permanent
Improvement Plan to meet Project’s objectives and monitor the
effectiveness of actions taken by implementing Key Indicators.
Participate to operational meetings with COMPANY, prepare reports
and implement actions plans agreed with COMPANY.
Ensure all deadlines and procedures are adhered to.
QHSE
In collaboration with QHSE, the Transport Manager assist to
conduct investigations to resolve incidents/accidents. He/She
implements corrective actions to prevent the same events from occurring
again.
Participate to all safety training as required
Adhere to all HSE requirements of the project
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration,
Logistics or any other related discipline
Sound knowledge of the road transport
business locally and internationally
Customer Service
Strong ethics in dealings with customers,
suppliers and contractors
10 years’ experience in Freight Forwarding 5
of which should be in a Road Freight Head or
similar role
